Tags 2 public beta released

We are proud to announce that today we are releasing a beta of Tags 2 so that you can all give it a spin.

We have been working on Tags 2 tirelessly for months now, and are very excited to show it to the you, and hope you like the results.

Tags 2 is really a complete rewrite of both the code and the way we think it will be used. There are too many new features to list now, but let me point out the most important changes:

- The UI has completely changed. The new UI is clean and much more what people expect from a Mac OS application. Tags 2 intends to replace the standard spotlight UI for search. Spotlight is still driving everything behind the scenes, but the Tags 2 search interface is intended to give you comprehensive search results, instead of just returning tagged objects. Over the months of using Tags ourselves we have realized that when searching we cannot simply focus on tags alone, but also require the full text search capabilities that the standard spotlight interface has to offer. We have therefore created a search functionality which combines, what we think, is the best of both worlds. As the search interface is really intended to replace the standard searchlight UI, I suggest you give it a fighting chance by setting the shortcut for tags search to "command space" (in order for this to work you will have to manually remove the shortcut setting in the spotlight settings first to free it up).

- The Tag Browser has been completely redesigned to allow you to efficiently browse through your tagged items.

- Tags 2 is Snow Leopard only!

I could go on and on, but I suggest you simply give it a shot, and let us know what you think. After installation do have a look at the preferences and define the two shortcuts. You can now define separate shortcuts for search / tag mode.
